On behalf of the entire administration, faculty and staff, welcome to the academic section of our website!!
Iona Prep’s traditional liberal arts curriculum has the depth and breadth to offer Regents, Honors, Accelerated, and Advanced Placement (college level) courses. Students are not “tracked” but rather placed in courses appropriate to their previous academic experience, particular talents, and strengths. Given the rigor of our academic program, we make a special effort to ensure success for our new students. Through the Freshman Program, new students adjust to academic and
community life with the help of peer counselors, upperclassmen trained by our Guidance Department. The top 15% of freshmen are offered placement in the Superior Talent Enrichment Program (STEP), our high honors program that leads to a full complement of Advanced Placement courses.
Our academic tradition has a rich history, but also looks toward the future of education in which technology and globalization are increasingly important. Iona employs some of the latest educational technology including Edline, wireless Internet access, and SMART BoardsTM to enhance the educational experience. With Edline, students and parents alike can see academic progress in real time. It lends itself to academic dialogue among teachers, students and parents.
We also offer students exciting opportunities to experience cultural learning. Long and short term exchange programs in Italy and Ireland have given students a chance to learn more about the world outside of school and about themselves. School sponsored trips, both domestic and international, are also frequently made available to students and faculty.
