PLUS: afternoon sessions of athletic skill instruction and enhancement in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball and soccer.  All morning courses are 50 minutes.

SAC Campers choose FOUR (4) from the following morning courses:

Crime Scene Investigation [CSI] - A course designed to be a rewarding and fun learning experience through daily hands on lab activities. As budding forensic scientists, some of our investigations include: crime scene investigations and evidence examination, investigations in fingerprinting, the study of hair, blood typing and splatters, use of the microscope, DNA extraction and forensic anthropology. The excitement of forensic science is brought to life every day. (grades 6, 7 & 8)

Investigations in Science - Through hands-on activities, students investigate and experiment in the areas of biology, chemistry, and the environmental sciences.  Campers will become familiar with the steps involved in scientific investigation while learning to handle scientific equipment. (grades 6 & 7)

Robotics – The basics of robotics are learned through the assembly of a track vehicle. Each student assembles his own track robot vehicle with the direction and assistance of the SAC staff. The use of basic tools and electronics are emphasized in a fun learning environment. (grades 6 & 7)

Rocketry - An introduction to model rocketry. Students learn about aerodynamics, the basic laws of physics and the history of the space program. Each student assembles and launches two of his own rockets with direction and assistance from the SAC staff. Launch safety is emphasized throughout. (grades 7 & 8).

Flight Simulator - Real life flight instruction and basic piloting skills are learned through the use of computers, flight simulation programs and authentic control yokes, flight controls, and rudder pedals. Students will learn how to fly basic maneuvers and master take offs and landings. This is not a video gaming but realistic “virtual” flight instruction as one would receive in training for a pilot’s license. (grade 8 only).

Journalism - Get an edge in how to fine tune your writing skills and learn some new, cool tricks using digital print tools. Students will learn how to digitally put a newspaper together using Adobe Photoshop and Quark Xpress. After writing and editing stories, students will then design the newspaper layout, prepare photos, and create crossword puzzles in MS Excel. (grades 7 & 8)

Grammar/Composition - Students will gain an appreciation for the English language via an engaging study of grammar application. Students will become associated with the basic parts of speech and begin to apply them within their personal writing techniques. In addition, students will explore a variety of writing styles and apply learned material while engaging in the writing process. (grades 6 & 7)

Literary Magazine - Students write creatively on a number of topics. Students work in pairs, large groups and on an individual basis to create stories, poems and skits of their interest. At the completion of Literary Magazine, students' work is included in a writing magazine that is distributed to all of the students. (grades 6 & 7).

TACHS Strategy - This class offers an overview of the admission test for private high schools. Testing strategies in all content areas of the exam are reviewed and practiced throughout the course. Students become more proficient test-takers by engaging in both small group and whole class instruction that is stimulating and interactive. (grade 8 only)

Latin Word Parts - Using Latin as a common source for both Spanish and English, we explore English vocabulary by drawing connections between Latin and the two languages in such areas as lexicons of the body, numbers, family, and science. Activities include word searches, puzzles, Simon Says, computer games, hang man, etc. Students will develop a deeper appreciation for all three languages through this inter-lingual class. (grades 6, 7 & 8)

Art Projects - An art appreciation class that emphasizes creative projects in visual imagery.  Drawing skills, perspectives, color, design, and hands-on training is the order of each day's class.  A camper's artwork develops under supervised individualized instruction.  Art supplies are available for use in each of the classes.  An advanced class is available for campers who enroll in both SAC sessions. (grades 6, 7 & 8)
